The story behind Guy Fawkes...

Along time ago, the parliament buildings were going to get blown up! The man was setting up a few bombs. Luckily, the guards saw him sneak around the back of the castle. Today we celebrate the day that the parliament buildings were saved.

PE Fun!

This term for PE, Rimu hub went through a rotation throughout the three skills. Running, jumping and throwing. I thought this was a great chance for me to train myself. Here is some explaining and personal voice through the rest of my post.....

Calendar Art

This year for calendar art we had options to pick from. There were a variety of stunning pieces of art. But this one caught my eye. The textured landscape. I liked this piece because it really caught my attention. Something that challenged me along the way was probably picking the right patterns. Something that I really thought was cool was the idea of the art. I am really happy that I picked this design because I am happy with the way it turned out. I hope you liked it.

Character Description!

Mikaera My Cousin by Maia
WALT choose words that give the reader a vivid picture in their head
Purpose: To Entertain
Text Type: Character Description
My Writing Goal: Consistency with punctuation (editing skills).
Success Criteria:
Shows physical description
Shows character traits and actions
Organised into correct sentences and paragraphs
Strong nouns, verbs and adjectives
Uses a good simile and can use other language features effectively
Has an entertaining anecdote (little story that happened) about the character

Mikeara can be a sporty sensation but he can also be a crazy clown. My cousin is the average kind. He will come and see you and give you a big hug even if you refuse. His personality can cheer you up when you are in a bad mood and he also tells you really bad jokes, but you still laugh at them anyway.

The first thing that you would probably see when you meet Mikaera are his twinkling, glinting eyes. He has a very gentle tan that shines in the light. He has chocolate hair swayed to the side, styled with gel. His ears are a curved oval with a squarer appearance. His nose is a slight tilt but I think it suits him. He has a full set of teeth that you can see twinkle from a mile away.

He is not the best at taking photos because his eyes are always squinched together. My cousin isn't from around here and he only comes to visit. He plays lots of sports and loves to mess around. So he is kind of a goofball.

As you can probably visualise, my cousin has many different personalities. He is one of the best cousins you can have! But from my writing above, can you guess in the photo who I am talking about?
Leave in the comments who you think he is....

I liked this post because it was really fun and I loved to write it.
Something I learnt while writing was probably writing about someone else and describing their character.

Guess What's Coming Up!

Last rugby World Cup, the All-Blacks came out with a win. Let's carry on with the trend aye! Here is some creative things I have made to represent the All-Blacks.......

On the 21st of September, I woke up at 4:00 (Yes, 4:00) just to watch the RWC!!!!
All Blacks vs Argentina

This match was probably one of the most challenging matches that the all blacks will play for their pool. It was a really close game as they were down in the first half. Luckily they made a come back in the second half. They came put with a win. 27/16 to the all blacks.

Here Comes Something To Talk About.....

This week I have been sick and I feel real sorry for me. But.......

There is something that I know that is happening that I can just not wait for...... The Parkvale art gallery! I am so excited! I can't wait.

Moment in time
"What should I do for my art?" I said to myself. Then an idea comes to me. "I know, how about a pretty tree design. I mean, I love the outdoors and nature and also it will look pretty cool." I sit there scrolling down, beginning to doubt myself about the tree idea. But then, I see it......

Jamie Curry is a talented comedic actress who at the age of nineteen, has already expressed her talent and made herself a star in New Zealand. Her teenage fame has lead her to the top. With a funny humor and a load of talent, she has been named the most famous teenager in New Zealand.

Who Is She?
When she attended Sacred Heart College, she was very liked and popular around the students. In her previous years, she lived in Taradale, Hawkes Bay. She is relatable to most teenagers which probably attracts more attention to her videos from that age group. Not afraid of what she looks like, she makes her videos with no make-up what so ever. A self-deprecating person like her does it for the fun and also for the laughs.

Early Life
In her spare time outside of her famous life, she takes part in some extracurricular activities. One of them is that she plays for her local soccer club, Marist. She is really competitive around these events. She said "If I make any savings from this, I will use it to decorate my room." Her computer skills aren't as good as she makes it look. She has her sister and friends to help her edit the videos.

YouTube Fame
Her Facebook page, Jamie's World, was created for her friends and her to post funny videos. They convinced her to do it at a soccer meeting, so she did it when she got home. She thought it would be good fun. Once she had posted a few videos, and as soon as she got one like, she got another and another and another. Her high school fame had surprised her. She arrived at school to see she had heaps of fans. After her page was created, she started to post some more videos. A week later, she had received more than 24,000 likes. She says, "It was luck that that was when the internet was watching." She has started up a YouTube and Twitter account. Every night in her spare time, she reads emails and messages from her fans. Still with more than 11,000 unread messages to reply to, she says "I feel like I need to give it back to them for watching my videos and for following me."

Other Successes
Her fame has lead her to other successes like being able to be filmed in a music video with kiwi song artist, Massad. Starring as the “girl next door” in the music video, The Girl Next Door. She also collaborates with Jamie McDell regularly. An even bigger achievement was getting the privilege to tour the UK with British Boy Band, M.A.D.

Jamie Curry is still making her humorous videos that entertain us all. Recently she has had more than 6.5 million likes on her Facebook page. She is an inspiration and a successful comedic actress.

My Camp Kaitawa Presentation

Created with Haiku Deck, presentation software that inspires

Camp moment in time.

It smelt disgusting! I knew I don't want to walk through that. I can't believe the people before me did. I was almost crying because it stank so much. Teachers can't possibly expect me to do it. Can they? Suddenly, the ground started to fall, unless I was going up. Then I saw. I was moving up the wall. Then I had the best idea. I was going to spider crawl along the wall. As I did, the scent of rotten mud got stronger. Yuck! Finally, I clenched the ladder to get through the whole. As I climbed up, my hands got all slimy from everyone's feet going up it. I knew I would rather smell fresh air then smell this dump. Finally I exited the last cave. Ahhhhh, the fresh air.

Menu Writing

We had to make a professional menu that you would see at a five star restaurant. We had to come up with a styilish name and an introduction for the restaurant. I called mine Time To Dine. The introduction is at the top of the menu. On the menu, we couldn't put just the word of what we were serving. We had to be specific. So this is my menu and I hope it makes you hungry.

Candy Fun Fair

Learning task:
I turn around and in front of my eyes I see the most amazing scene. The Ferris wheel sparkles in the distance of the setting sun and the red sky's. Rows and rows of candy stands lined up to lead you around. Delicious candy floss stands right at view. With flags that blow in the subtle wind. Sploges of clouds across the fair. It is a very styled fair. The ferris wheel is tall, I stands right above me. Itmfeels like you're floating in a dream.

Full story

I turn around and in front of my eyes I see the most amazing scene..... The CANDY FUN FAIR! It has a donut ferris wheel and lollipop trees and most of all, the snowman circus tent, where all of the acts perform with all of the gummy bear gymnast and the gingerbread jumpers and most of all, the big guy himself, Simon Van P. Snowman.

First of all, I want to go on the donut ferris wheel so I ask my mum.
"Mum, can we please go on the donut?"
"We can go on it soon, first we are going to go and get something to eat."
"Okay, but then can we go on it. Pleeeeeease!"
"Maybe, let's go and get some candy floss."

"Mum, mum, I want to have the blue and pink bag."
Okay, I will pay for that now."
So I am waiting in line just standing around listening to the sounds of screaming and squealing coming out of the joyful kids mouth. It sounds like you are in the room with a bunch of meowing cats that are being cashed by barking dogs. Finally, I got my blue, sticky, candy floss. It almost looked like a spiders web wound up on a stick. It was still yummy though.

"Can we go on the ferris wheels now?"
"After we go on the merry go round.
It looked like amazing fun. We were lucky because people just started arriving just after us. Once we stood up on the platform for our turn, there was a massive line going to about the other Sidon the fair. Some people even tried to push in line. When I sat down in my carriage with mum, I felt like I was sitting down on a cloud. And the bars the you hold on to during the ride were patterned into candy canes. And had lollipops sticking out the sides. This is going to be really fun.

The ride was finished and I completely forgot about the Ferris wheel. So then mum asked me something,
"Do you want to go on the Ferris wheel?"
The moment she said that I was off in a flash. In the distance I also yelled,
It was so fun, we went as high as the sky! Good thing I didn't eat to much candy floss.
Unfortunately, I have to go home. I can't wait to come back next time.

Maths with Mrs Hinde

For maths with Mrs Hinde, we made arrays. The answer to the problem we had to make was 48. 1 8th of 48 is 6. So 2 6ths are batman, 2 6ths are super man and 2 6ths are spider man. My times table was 8 times 6 = 48. This is my array:

What I learnt about arrays is that you can group numbers into arrays and get an answer for it easily. What I found tricky was that it wouldn't make sense if you got it wrong and to make it so it was right was hard. To add extra details, we had to rotate, mirror, and translate. I like arrays and I am going to use them more in the future.

My writing.

"Maia, pack your bags, we are going to the cuzzies."
"Wait a sec mum, I am just going to finish this level."
"Maia Bassett, get off that computer right now!!"
"Okay I am going, so, who's cuzzies house are we going to anyway?"
"Don't tell me you forgot about Shelby's birthday."
"Um, no I didn't." But actually, I did.
Omg, I can't believe I forgot her birthday. I mumbled to myself. There I am, searching the cupboards for a cute card. Then I spotted one of the happy flower cards. I had bought a couple of days ago."perfect." I said not whispering, but in a quiet voice. She is gonna love it!
"Maia, get in the car we're late!"

It is a 20 minute drive to Shelby's house. As we pull up there long driveway, I look out the window to see uncle simon on the paddocks. I wined down the window and waved at him. He saw me and waved at me back. Then we pulled up in front of their house. I jumped out of the car and then instantly, I smelt the delicious smell of meat patties on the BBQ and homemade burger buns. "Yummy!" I said a little too loud because then my cousin Rylee came running up to me with her arms open wide. She managed to catch me because I tripped up on a piece of log. She helped me up and gave me a hug. Well, a least a hug to her, it was a squeeze to me.

We were all playing in the new muffin cart that they sell muffins from. We searched all of the cupboards for the muffins and mini cakes for our bellies. Nothing, then Rylee remember that they had sold out last week. I said "I am so mad right now!" But I've course, I said that in my head. Instead I said, "mee."  So, me and Rylee and a few other kids played in her sandpit. Making sandcastle, playing sand fights. And yes, I got sand in my eyes. The sand felt hot because the sun was beaming all day.

4 hours have gone past and it is getting dinner time. Everyone was gathered around the table. I could hear the laughter of adults and kids as it is the time to tell jokes. As I looked around, I saw all of the kids were going hipo all over the frontyard. It was out, the star of the dinner table, I was the chicken patties. All of the kids then zoomed up to the table as they dished up some delicious meat patties. I took one bite and I instantly fell I love with it. It just melted in my mouth. Yum yum yum.

It came to dessert. We all sang the birthday song as we were looking at the cake. It looked awesome. Maltesers on top and chocolate fingers around the sides. Yummy. Shelby blew out the candles and we all shouted...... YAY!!!
